A simple example of an Android PhoneGap application that shows how to use Android speech recognition and TTS in an HTML5/Javascript environment. Available on GitHub.
MossTalkWords 2: Conversational Technologies was responsible for the speech recognition feature of MossTalk Words 2, a computer-assisted treatment program for individuals with with language impairments (i.e. aphasia) typically acquired through stroke or head injury. This work was done for MossRehab, recognized as one of the 10 best rehabilitation hospitals in the U.S. by US News and World Report.
Multimodal Web Standards: Chaired by Deborah Dahl of Conversational Technologies, the World Wide Web Consortium Multimodal Interaction Working Group develops Web standards that support multiple modes of user interaction, including speech, graphics, handwriting, keyboard and pointing.
Voice Application Training in Africa: Conversational Technologies recently conducted training programs in Ghana and Kenya for the World Wide Web Foundation, with the goal of enabling African entrepreneurs to develop voice technology-based businesses. More information.
Voice-enabled M-Commerce: Mobile shoppers searching for just the right item in an online store's inventory must fight with the limited space available on mobile devices, the lack of an efficient keyboard and idiosyncratic graphical user interfaces. Voice-enabled mobile shopping makes it much easier to search for items, put them on wishlists, remember previous searches and get answers to FAQ's. In addition, voice-enabled shopping can make brick and mortar shopping easier. For example, geolocation services on mobile devices can enable m-commerce applications to proactively notify users that they're near a retail store that carries items they've been shopping for. This video demonstrates a prototype system that illustrates this concept.
